So the St Paul Rodeo last night was pretty heart wrenching in the end because of a really terrible accident that happened in the last event; 'The Wild Horse Race.' Standardly I'm not a big fan of the wild horse race because it's pretty much just an excuse for a whole bunch of gung-hoe cowboys to scare the crap out of wild never-ridden mustangs so really it's not the best situation to begin with but last night was horrible because in the middle of all the mayhem of horses and cowboys two of the horses with cowboys on them running scared at break neck speed crashed smack into each other sending the cowboys flying and leaving the severely injured. One of them went down and never got up again just laid there in the arena having seizures and the other one had an obviously broken and unusable front leg. The whole thing was just so tragic.
Really races like this shouldn't even happen at the rodeo, it's a sporting event and no animals should be subjected to such a terrifying event for spectators enjoyment. Rodeo's are entertainment just like movies or tv shows and in movies and tv shows animals are not allowed to be hurt so therefore it would seem that it would follow that animals shouldn't be put in such potentially dangerous situations in rodeos. And now remember I speak as a person who has been attending rodeos since I was little and I very much love them as a family fourth of july tradition and I am very aware that it is a rough and tumble sport in which both animals and people are likely to take a beating from time to time but last night was more then that, two horses died(most likely in the end they were both put down with the kind of injuries they had) and it never should have happened.
